A fanatical group of supporters in Dortmund had placed a gigantic banner with the text “Die Gelbe Wand Dortmund” above the south stand. That is how the name ‘Die Gelbe Wand’ seems to have come about.

The name is actually very logical. If you go to a Dortmund match and look at the south stand, it is yellow, steep and huge. The yellow wall is therefore a very appropriate name.
