Hertha BSC is a club from Berlin, that plays its home games in the iconic Olympic Stadium. The club’s nickname is “Die Alte Dame” (The old lady) as the club was already founded in 1892. It was also one of the clubs that founded the German Football Federation in 1900. The club celebrated its biggest successes in the 1930s, when Hertha won the German championship in both 1930 and 1931. On an international level, the participation of Hertha in the Champions League in the 1999/2000 season was the greatest success. After the turn of the century, Hertha achieved good successes in the Bundesliga, including the 4th place in 2009. Due to these successes, Hertha has regularly participated in the UEFA Cup.
Union Berlin is located in the east of the city and is thus a real GDR club. That’s why the nickname is “Die Eisernen”. Union had little success in the GDR competition: they rose to the highest level, only to fall again. Over the years in the GDR competition, Union developed a rivalry with BFC Dynamo. Union is traditionally a club of metal workers and BFC Dynamo is the club of the Stasi, the most important East German Secret and Security Service during the cold war. In 2019/2020 season Union Berlin relegated back to the 2. Bundesliga. The stadium of Union Berlin is Das Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
At the moment, no Berlin clubs plays in the 3. Bundesliga. On the fourth level (the Regionalliga Nordost), there are five clubs: the Berliner Ak 07, BFC Dynamo, SV Bablesberg, Viktoria Berlin and Tennis Borussia Berlin.

Berliner AK 07 is the Berlin club, that is closest to downtown Berlin. The Berliner Athletik Klub 07, was founded, as the name says, in 1907 as an athletics club. In 1908 the football department was added. For the most part of its history, the club has played in the lower leagues. As of 2011, the club has played in the Regionalliga Nordost. The home games are played in the Post Stadium.
BFC Dynamo is a club from east Berlin and record champion of the GDR. Between 1979 and 1988 they became champions in the GDR competition ten times in a row. After the fall of the wall, BFC Dynamo played on the third and even fifth level. However, since the 2014/2015 season the club has played in the Regionalliga Nordost. Since their promotion, the club has played its home games in the Friedrich-Ludwig-Han-Sportpark.
SV Babelsberg 03 is a football club from Potsdam-Babelsberg, on the outskirts of Berlin. In the days of the GDR, “Nulldrei” played mainly in the second league. After the fall of the wall, apart from one season (2000/2001) in the 2. Bundesliga, the club played on the fourth and fifth level. SV Babelsberg 03 plays its home games in the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion and has a fantastic fan base: The Filmstadt Inferno 99.
FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin is a club from Berlin that was founded by the fusion of BFC Viktoria 1889 and Lichterfelder FC. Since its founding, the club has played its home games in the Regionalliga Nordost in the Lichterfelde Stadion. The greatest success of the club was the triumph in the Berlin cup competition in 2014.
Tennis Borussia Berlin is a German football club from Berlin that was founded in 1902. Tennis is a relic of the old tennis and table tennis club, and Borussia is a Latin version of Prussia. The club is often abbreviated by TeBe. The club was Hertha BSC’s big rival in the 1920s and 1930s when both clubs competed for the title of best club in Berlin.
